Pricing, costs and margins

How totals are computed, how to enter costs privately, and how to use target margin and the catalogue.

Last updated 15 October 2026

All money in Proposora is computed by one pricing engine. The editor, the PDF, the share page and the invoice call the same code, so they always agree.

How totals are computed

  1. Each line: amount = quantity × unit price, rounded to two decimals (half-up).
  2. Line discount is subtracted; the document discount is allocated across billable lines by value.
  3. Tax is computed on each line's discounted taxable value at its slab, rounded per line, and split into components (CGST/SGST or IGST).
  4. Totals are sums of rounded lines: subtotal, discounts, taxable total, tax by component, grand total.
  5. Optional round-off to the whole rupee is reported as its own line.

Costs and margin

Enter your unit cost on each line. The editor shows gross profit and gross margin per line and for the document. Margin is profit divided by the taxable (pre-tax) selling value; markup is profit divided by cost. Costs never appear on anything the customer sees.

  • The totals panel colours margin green above 20%, amber between 10% and 20%, and red below 10% or when a line is sold below cost.
  • The price helper suggests a selling price for a target margin: cost ÷ (1 − margin).
  • Optional items are excluded from margin totals until they are made billable.

The catalogue

Store your usual items with description, unit, rate, cost and GST slab. Adding a catalogue item to a quotation copies these values, so you only adjust quantity. Update the catalogue when your rates change; existing quotations keep the values they were sent with.

Template prices are placeholders, not market rates. Replace them with your catalogue rates before sending.
