GST quotation generator with an exact CGST, SGST and IGST split
Choose the slab per item and whether the supply is within your state. Proposora computes the taxable value, splits the tax correctly and prints the breakdown on a quotation your customer's accountant will accept without questions.
- Taxable value
- ₹50,000.00
- CGST @ 9%
- ₹4,500.00
- SGST @ 9%
- ₹4,500.00
- Total payable
- ₹59,000.00
Within a state, GST is split equally into CGST and SGST. Rounding follows the half-up convention used on Indian tax invoices.
How it works
- Step 1
Set your tax defaults
GSTIN, tax label, default slab and whether your prices are tax-inclusive, saved in the business profile.
- Step 2
Add items with a slab each
0, 5, 12, 18 or 28 percent per line. Mixed slabs are fine.
- Step 3
Mark the supply type
Within state for CGST/SGST, inter-state for IGST. The document breakdown updates.
- Step 4
Send a compliant PDF
GSTIN, HSN/SAC if you add them, taxable value, tax by component and grand total.
How GST appears on a quotation
A quotation is not a tax invoice, but customers expect it to show tax the same way, because the number they compare across vendors is the total payable. A clear GST quotation has the taxable value of each line, the slab applied, a summary that groups tax by component (CGST and SGST, or IGST) and rate, and a grand total. If you quote tax-inclusive prices, the document should still show the taxable value and tax separately so the customer can claim input credit later.
Worked example
Suppose an electrical contractor in Maharashtra quotes a customer in Pune for ₹1,00,000 of work at 18 percent. The supply is within the state, so the quotation shows CGST at 9 percent (₹9,000) and SGST at 9 percent (₹9,000), total ₹1,18,000. If the same contractor quotes a customer in Gujarat, the supply is inter-state and the quotation shows IGST at 18 percent (₹18,000), with the same total. The calculator above does this for any amount and slab.
Mixed slabs and discounts
Real quotations mix goods and services with different rates, and often carry a discount negotiated at the end. The pricing engine handles both without breaking the tax maths. A document discount is allocated across lines in proportion to their value, using a largest-remainder method so the allocated parts sum exactly to the discount, and tax is then computed on the discounted taxable value of each line. The breakdown therefore remains correct per rate, which is what a GST return eventually needs.
From quotation to invoice
When the customer accepts, convert the quotation to an invoice. The items, slabs and supply type carry over; the invoice gets its own number from your invoice series, the date of supply, and your payment instructions and bank details from the profile. The Indian-style amount in words is printed automatically. Read more in the invoices help article.
Proposora is a quotation and proposal tool, not a GST return filing service. It produces documents whose figures are right; filing and reconciliation stay with you or your accountant.
